Your journal

Dream notes, recordings, storyboards and downloaded videos are stored locally in the app. Uninstalling may remove them. Device backups may include app data. SomniReel does not provide a cloud journal backup or an additional app lock. Recording and writing do not require an online account.

Optional Apple Health sleep context

You can choose to let SomniReel read Sleep Analysis from Apple Health to view recent sleep duration, timing and available stages alongside your dream journal and reflect on your sleep routine. Records may come from Apple Watch or other sources synced to Apple Health. We request read access only and do not write or delete Health records.

Sleep records and derived summaries remain in memory on your device. They are not copied into your journal, stored in our app backups, uploaded to our servers, included in AI requests, shared with AI providers or used for advertising. We save only your on/off preference. Turn off sleep context in the Sleep tab to clear these records from SomniReel and stop further reads; you can separately change sharing permissions in Apple Health. Your original records remain in Apple Health.

Sleep context is optional. Your journal works without it. Available stages depend on the source, and sleep context does not reveal what you dreamed or provide a medical assessment.

When you use AI

Each AI action asks before uploading. Transcription sends your recording through our server to OpenAI. Storyboards send reviewed dream text to OpenAI. Videos send the selected scene and style to Google. These services process that content to return the requested result; their own retention policies apply. Avoid including information you do not want these providers to process.

Our backend uses Vercel and Upstash. Transcription and storyboard results are encrypted in the server cache for up to 10 minutes; request deduplication records are kept for 24 hours. Completed video job metadata is encrypted and kept for up to 7 days. Unresolved video jobs remain until settled or the account is deleted. Google video downloads are available for a limited time; download finished videos within two days.

Your account and purchases

Sign in with Apple links an account identifier to your credit balance. We do not request your name or email from Apple. We store a keyed hash of your Apple identifier, an encrypted authorization token and account status. A signed session is stored in the iPhone keychain. RevenueCat receives the account identifier and purchase information to verify Apple purchases and provide customer and purchase analytics. Apple handles checkout; SomniReel does not receive your card details. Vercel processes request IP addresses and may derive an approximate city and country from them. Hosting providers also process request metadata, operational diagnostics and performance measurements to run, secure and maintain the service.

We retain account-linked counts of AI and video requests to enforce free allowances and service limits and to prevent abuse.

Purchase transaction records, credit settlements and a pseudonymous account link are retained to recover balances, process refunds and prevent duplicate credits. They contain no journal text. Contact support about access or deletion requests. Processing by our service providers may take place outside your country.

Optional usage analytics

Starting with iOS version 0.4.2, SomniReel offers optional Google Firebase Analytics to help us understand how many people use the app and which features are useful. Analytics is off until you choose to allow it. Your journal and other app features work without analytics.

When enabled, Firebase processes an app installation identifier, basic device and app information (such as device model, operating system and app version), app sessions and feature activity. General location, such as city or country, is derived from your IP address; analytics does not access GPS or Apple's Location Services. Firebase may automatically measure in-app purchases through Apple StoreKit, including product ID, product name and price, associated with the installation identifier.

Our feature events record actions such as completing onboarding, saving a dream, requesting or completing a video, and approving a credit purchase. We do not send dream text, recordings, transcripts, storyboards, generated videos, moods or Apple Health records to analytics. We do not set your SomniReel account identifier as a Firebase user ID or send our account or transaction identifiers as custom event parameters.

Our app's analytics configuration disables advertising identifier collection and advertising features. We use these analytics to understand and improve SomniReel, not for cross-app advertising tracking.

You can change your choice in Settings under Optional usage analytics. Turning analytics off stops future analytics collection and resets the installation's analytics identifier. It does not erase information already received by Google. Deleting your SomniReel account does not automatically delete separately collected Firebase analytics data. Contact hello@somnireel.com for privacy requests; because we do not link analytics to your account, we may not be able to identify a particular analytics record from your account details alone.

Google processes analytics data under its applicable terms, retention settings and privacy practices, and processing may occur outside your country. See Google's Privacy Policy and Privacy and Security in Firebase.

Video credit terms

Credit packs are one-time consumable purchases at the price shown by Apple before confirmation. There is no subscription. One credit provides one successfully generated 8-second portrait video at 720p. AI results vary and interpret your scene; a successful result is not a guarantee of a particular artistic outcome.

Purchased credits do not expire. A credit is reserved when generation starts, spent when a video becomes ready, and returned if generation is confirmed to have failed. If the provider start is uncertain, that credit stays reserved until support resolves the request. Service capacity and daily limits can temporarily prevent new requests without reserving a credit. Sign in with the same Apple account to recover unused credits after reinstalling.

Refund requests are handled through Apple purchase support. Refunded packs remove the corresponding credits, including from future purchases if those credits were already used. Nothing here limits rights that apply under consumer law.

Deletion and control

Use Settings → Delete account to remove your online account and revoke its Apple sign-in authorization. This forfeits remaining and reserved credits and removes the active account credentials and RevenueCat customer profile. Financial and fraud-prevention records described above are retained. Deletion does not automatically request a payment refund or cancel a generation already sent to a provider.

Your local journal remains until you delete its entries or uninstall. Deleting an entry removes its local notes, recording and downloaded video, but not copies saved to Photos, shared elsewhere or retained by providers. To stop microphone or Photos access, change permissions in iPhone Settings.
